Family tradition identifies this building as the Mooresville blacksmith
shop built by Jacob A. Hoover (1810-1901) and the man in the doorway as Jacob's
son, "Dolph" Hoover. Dolph married Dora Anna Hudgins, daughter of John
Hudgins and Susan Stamper. Three generations of Hoovers -- Jacob, Dolph and Marion -- were blacksmiths in this building. Marion subsequently built a smaller blacksmith shop across the road on the south side of Highway 36. |
