Mooresville School Bond Campaign

By 1924, the old frame school building was so dilapidated that state accreditation was threatened. Supt. John R. Yelton proposed issuance of school bonds to build a new, modern school. He dismissed classes for an entire day so the pupils could campaign for the bond issue. Voters passed the controversial issue by a large margin but influential school board members who opposed the bond issue refused to renew Supt. Yelton's contract the following year.
