Confederate Veterans

These Mooresville men served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. From left: John Henry H. Matson, born 1835; John Thomas Stamper (1838-1920); Humphrey D. Hudgins (1832-1924). John Matson was shot in the leg. Humphrey Hudgins was standing in the army food line near Springfield, Missouri, when a sniper's bullet, fired from a great distance, struck him on the head. He was knocked unconscious but the skin was not broken. He carried the bump on his forehead for the rest of his life.
