Hiram E. Benson and John Wesley Barnes were the first rural mail
carriers in Mooresville Township. Rural Free Delivery commenced here Sept. 1,
1903 and both men served until retirement. Mr. Benson served the west half
of the township.
"Highland -- The worst snow storm of the season came Sunday afternoon. The drifts prohibited mail service on the Breckenridge route but it takes more than snow to frighten the faithful Mooresville carrier, Hiram Benson. He has gone every day except Sundays and holidays this winter." --Breckenridge Bulletin, March 1, 1912. |
