This school was located in the Grand River flood plain in Sampsel Township, about two miles
southwest of the town. The school was closed each time the river flooded. A teacher
reported in 1891 that the school building was in bad condition and a new building (shown here)
was erected on the site in 1893. At one time there were 42 pupils. The school was closed in 1921.
The building was moved into the town of Sampsel, remodeled and used for the lower grades. Third from left is Gladys Best (1907-1977). Fourth from left is her brother, Russel Best (1905-1946). At far right is the teacher, Miss Ruth Toner (1897-1965).
