Like his brothers and sisters, he used the surname Jones (from their father's Christian name, which was the common convention at that time). From at least 1825 (and most likely earlier than that*) until his death in 1855, he was a farmer, at Coedybedo, a 160 acre farm in the Nantlleidiog, or Cwm Main, area of Llanfor. He was one of the founders of the Independent Chapel at Rhydywernen, near Cefnddwysarn, Llanfor. Before Rhydywernen had been founded he was a member of Capel y Groes, the Independent chapel at Llangwm (an adjoining parish to Llanfor, in Denbighshire). He was well known to Independent Ministers throughout Wales. When Reverend Hugh Pugh (1802-1869), later of Mostyn, Flintshire, came to Rhydywernen in 1826, to be schoolmaster, and then (after his ordination in 1827) to be joint minister (with the renowned Reverend Michael D. Jones), he lived in the household of William Jones, Coedybedo, until he left to take charge of the chapel in Mostyn, Flintshire, in 1837. *His father John Morris had moved from Filltir Gerrig, Llanycil, to Coedybedo (where he had been born) in the 1780s, and he died there in 1825. There is a gravestone for him in Llanfor parish churchyard (where he was actually buried) and his name also appears on the gravestone of his wife Catherine Hughes in Rhydywernen Chapel cemetery. His son Robert R. Jones emigrated to USA in 1858 (following his son William R. Jones) and eventually settled in the Welsh community in Dawn, Livingston County, Missouri. His grandchildren Catherine and John Griffiths (children of his daughter Jane) emigrated to USA in 1866 on board the ship "England" which experienced a tragic outbreak of cholera on the voyage (both her husband and a child died). Catherine eventually settled in Granville, Ohio, and remarried, and John eventually settled in Columbus, Ohio, and they both have descendants living today in USA. His granddaughter Catherine (daughter of his son Hugh Jones) and her husband Richard H. Williams emigrated to USA in 1880 and settled in New Mexico. She has descendants living today in USA.
