There were two Humphrey Bests in western North Carolina, because there is another one who shows up on the Surry County tax lists for 1771, 1772, 1774 and 1775 with one tithable as 'Umphre Best'."

Humphrey filed suit on March 22, 1837, but the next day Turnham and Hawkins were ordered to give the money to Elizabeth.
