Excerpt from PAST AND PRESENT OF LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MISSOURI (1913): "James W. Hudgins was a pioneer farmer in the Mooresville area. He went to California at the time of the gold rush of 1849 and spent a few years in the mines of that state, returning in 1852 by way of the Isthmus of Panama. When he again arrived in Livingston County he resumed his agricultural pursuits, continuing to develop his farm until the outbreak of the Civil War, when he enlisted in the Confederate army under General Slack and served until the close of hostilities. After his discharge he returned to the farm and there died in 1908 (sic)."

Spouse: Manervia WOOLSEY. Manervia WOOLSEY and James Wallace HUDGINS were married on 5 September 1855 in Livingston Co., Missouri. The marriage date entered by Jefferson Stamper, J. They filed for divorce on 13 August 1859 in Chillicothe, Livingston, Missouri. Minerva charged Jim with abuse.
