Hudgins served in the Mexican War (1846-1848) under Col. Sterling Price. His first cousin, John Hudgins of Mooresville, served in the same regiment. Warren registered as disloyal to the Union in 1862. The cousins went to California together in 1849 to seek gold.

About the first of March, 1904, Mr. Hudgins purchased a house and lot in Mooresville's Second Addition west of town. (Chillicothe Constitution, March 3, 1904.)

"Warren M. Hudgins, pioneer settler of Mooresville, has just completed his own casket in which, if his wishes are carried out, on his demise he will be buried. The eccentric Mooresville resident has spent a great deal of time and energy on his casket. He took great pains in its dimensions. For weeks he has secluded himself and devoted his time to his work. During his younger life Mr. Hudgins was noted for his carpenter work. He is well known and respected all over the county." -- The Chillicothe Constitution, January 12, 1905.
